The EU Commission has filed another lawsuit against Malta.

The EU Commission has filed another lawsuit against Malta at the European Court of Justice (ECJ) for violating the Birds Directive. The subject of the complaint is the authorisation of the capture of seven species of songbirds with collapsible nets in autumn. The EU Court of Justice had already legally condemned Malta in 2018 for the same facts. In order to circumvent the ruling, bird trapping was unceremoniously relabelled as a scientific activity by the government and thousands of bird trappers were appointed "bird researchers" overnight. CABS have repeatedly criticised the project.
