Repeat offenders convicted in Malta
06.11.2024
Yesterday, Tuesday, two bird trappers in Malta were sentenced by the court in Valletta to a fine of 1500 euros each and a lifetime ban on trapping. The men, who already have a criminal record for illegal trapping, were reported to the Environmental Police (EPU) by a committee team near Dingli and Zurrieq in March for trapping birds outside the authorised trapping period and were caught in-situ by the officers. As the two bird trappers are repeat offenders, the court revoked their trapping licences for life. At the same time, our teams have so far caught 15 bird trappers since the start of this year's controversial ‘research’ trapping season on 20 October. They had either trapped at an un-registered site, used more nets than permitted or caught protected species.
