´Trapping farm´ shut down in Northern Lebanon
24.10.2025

In Aabdeh, in northern Lebanon, we shut down a trapping ‘farm’ where migratory birds were being caught on an industrial scale. A total of 55 nets with a total length of around 1,250 m were found in an extensive lime plantation. This is the largest facility of its kind that we have seen in our 50-year history – between 1,000 and 1,500 birds were caught here every day. Of the approximately 500 freshly caught birds, around 300 were still alive – including various warblers, shrikes, a corncrake and an Egyptian Fruit bat! Due to the heated situation near the Syrian border, our team had to leave the area under police protection.
