Operation against illegal duck hunting in Venice

Hundreds of thousands of water birds winter in the lagoons near Venice, attracting hunters from all over Italy. In a joint operation with the Carabinieri, Italian CABS teams have caught 22 poachers illegally hunting birds at the end of January; 21 shotguns and 6,400 rounds of ammunition were seized. One of the suspects also engaged in black market trade with the shot birds, for which a strict marketing ban is in force in Italy. 961 birds were seized, including teals, pintails, shovelers and mallard ducks.
