Malta – 19. 11. 2024

Conclusion of the bird protection camps in southern Spain.

19.11.2024

In the two southern Spanish regions of Andalusia and Alicante, committee (CABS) teams have spent the last two weeks checking trapping sites and hunting grounds. Despite the rainy weather, five poachers were convicted - they were either using illegal nets to trap birds or were hunting songbirds with illegal electronic decoys. The police have seized a total of three clap-nets, two set nets, one electronic decoy, two hunting weapons and 40 snap traps for catching robins as well as 13 live decoy birds (finches). In addition, 110 wire snares were found that had been set up by unknown persons to catch wild rabbits. Our actions on the Iberian Peninsula, which began in mid-October, are not yet complete - we are now continuing on the coast of eastern Spain, where we want to take action against illegal finch trapping.
