Northern Italy - Poacher caught after 10 years!
01.11.2024
Following a tip-off from the Committee Against Bird Slaughter (CABS), police have caught a man who had set 98 snap traps for robins in the mountains near Lake Garda. We first found the trapping site, which can only be reached by walking for several hours, back in 2014. A police approach failed at the time because the perpetrator saw the officers. Since then, we have checked the remote mountainside every year during the trapping season in October, always without success. This year, everything was just right: The traps were active, the perpetrator didn't see us - the following day we led the police over a mountain pass, and they were able to catch the 51-year-old perpetrator in the act. During a subsequent house search, they found another 50 snap traps, two trapping nets and an illegal hunting weapon. This is poacher number 22 of the ongoing bird protection camp in Brescia!
