HE Bernd Braun and staff talk to teams at Laferla Cross

HE Bernd Braun (centre in suit), the German Ambassador to Malta, during his visit to CABS at Laferla CrossHE Bernd Braun (centre in suit), the German Ambassador to Malta, during his visit to CABS at Laferla CrossOn 23.September 2010 the German Ambassador to Malta, Bernd Braun, visited CABS in the field. On our 14th day of operations the diplomat met a group of German and British team members at Laferla Cross. This vantage point overlooks the most important bird of prey night root on Malta - Buskett Gardens. The Ambassador was accompanied by his wife Annette and Embassy staff members.

The Ambassador was briefed on CABS work on Malta and used the opportunity to thank the environmental unit of the police, ALE, for their outstanding support. Several members of the unit were present to ensure the security of our guest. Aggression against CABS members has occurred frequently in the area over the past days.

Good weather kept the birds away from the area so that the visitors were unable to enjoy the migration spectacle of the preceding days. Nevertheless Bee-eaters and swallows put on a welcome aerobatic display for the guests. After the group’s departure a Lesser Spotted Eagle appeared over Buskett - fortunately without attracting the attention of poachers.
