Put a stop to the massacre of migrant birds

Protest campaign against the special regional permissions to hunt finches, pipits and other Europe-wide protected species in Italy

Hawfinch - protected throughout Europe, but shot in huge numbers in Italy as a result of illegal regional hunting law amendmentsHawfinch - protected throughout Europe, but shot in huge numbers in Italy as a result of illegal regional hunting law amendmentsMany regions in Italy, above all Lombardy and Veneto, declare bird species huntable that are protected by legislation throughout the EU. The most affected species, which are shot in their thousands on the basis of special permits, are Chaffinch, Brambling, Hawfinch, Meadow and Tree Pipits.

The central government in Rome is able to put an end to the unbridled abuse of the hunters and the responsible regional politicians, as the special permissions to hunt finches and pipits are illegal under Italian law. The Berlusconi government, now no longer in power, never bothered much about these illegalities. Now, more than a decade later, we at last have the chance with a new government to put an stop to the hunting of finch and pipit species.. Put pressure on Italy’s brand new Environment Minister Corrado Clini to put an end to the annual slaughter of these protected birds.

You will find a prepared email in Italian to the Minister (with English and German translations of the text) here....
